About Lee Barta Community Center
From its headquarters at the Lee Barta Community Center on Liberty Street, the HLC set out not just to improve access to healthy food and exercise, but to help community members take their health into their own hands. The pilot project, βEat Well. Play Hard. Binghamton!β(EWPHB!) aimed to combat childhood obesity, but it soon grew clear that we couldnβt solely address childrenβs health without considering the health of the whole family and the community at large. The project transformed and now focuses on issues such access to healthy foods, nutritional literacy, cooking skills, opportunities for exercise, walkable streets and more.

They have a full service bicycle technician here to serve the community. It's free. The food pantry is open Wednesday mornings. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. They have art and kid's programs.

The leap artist center deserves an award! They helped my family multiple times when we needed it the most. I cannot express enough gratitude the employees are wonderful and kind. They don't wait for you to ask if they offer and they are wonderful!

I went for the fresh bike program with an old 10 speed bike and Jacob restored it into peak running condition. He was very helpful in teaching me how to adjust and maintain my bike. The center also participates in the CHOW program and has a pantry including fresh and frozen veggies. Thanks United Way.

I had a lot of fun. We'd cook together. We shared food recipes, or bring a dish We'd cook at home then bring it to the Center and share with everyone. I really liked going to the Center. Very educational, learn about spices as a matter of fact I still have recipes that were given to me.
